The IWC Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon combines the timeless modern design of the Portugieser watch with a tourbillon at 6 o'clock.
The tourbillon is one of the most remarkable achievements of watchmaking. The balance, fork and escape wheel are housed in a small cage that rotates once a minute around its axis. This constant rotation helps to balance the effect of gravity on the watch’s oscillation system and at the same time creates a visual spectacle on the dial. In the Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon, the flying tourbillon was placed at 6 o’clock. It consists of 56 individual parts and weighs just 0.635 grams. The tourbillon stop allows the movement to be completely stopped, allowing the time to be set to the nearest second. The fork and escape wheel have been coated with Diamond Shell® technology. The smooth diamond-coated surface reduces friction, which improves the transfer of energy in the mechanism. The case and crown are made of 18-carat Armor Gold®. Thanks to its modified microstructure, this new innovative material boasts significantly higher hardness values than traditional gold alloys. The applied Arabic numerals and feuille hands in gold blend beautifully with the silver-plated dial.
The IWC-manufactured 81905 calibre was specifically designed for this watch. The movement consists of 159 individual parts, is hand-wound and has a power reserve of 84 hours in its spring. Through the sapphire crystal case back, you can admire the decorations on the bridges and a solid gold medallion with the inscription "Probus Scafusia". This elegant Portugieser model is equipped with a black alligator leather strap from the Italian shoe manufacturer Santoni.
