Description
The IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Edition "Tophatters" is dedicated to Strike Fighter Squadron 14, which is based at Naval Air Station Lemoore in California.
The squadron was originally founded in 1919, making it the oldest active squadron in the navy. The chronograph has a 44.5mm case made of black ceramic with zirconium dioxide. The pushers and crown are made of Ceratania®, a material developed by IWC that combines the lightness and robustness of titanium with the hardness and scratch resistance of ceramic. The squadron badge with a classic top hat can be found on the dial at 6 o’clock and also as an engraving on the caseback of the grade 5 titanium. The day date display, the tip of the chronograph seconds hand, the small seconds hand and the stitching on the black calfskin strap add eye-catching details in the squadron’s signature red. Inside the case ticks the IWC-made 69380 chronograph movement with a power reserve of 46 hours. The annual production of this chronograph is limited to 500 pieces.
