The special feature of the Classica D70M watch is a complete novelty within the Erwin Sattler collection: a large date display at the 6 o'clock position. The date is the most useful additional function of the watch, the large date is its comfortable version. The large date differs from the usual date display in that it is represented by two elements. The tens are displayed on a cross, the ones on a disc that rotates under the cross. The distance between the two overlapping discs creates a minimal height difference of the order of fractions of a millimeter. To hide this fact, the large date is displayed in a window with a crossbar in the middle, which lies above the seam of both discs. With the so-called passenger winding, each full hour is signaled by a simple strike on the tone spring.
